This is the dilemma: When should we construct new buildings, and when is it necessary to adapt existing buildings to support social, economic, and environmental sustainability?
Less about heritage preservation than injecting new life into existing buildings and cities, the central question is, “how do we transform cities to sustain density and drive vitality?” Transforming means understanding density in a new way, identifying valid alternatives of reuse and reinvention, countering the status quo of building new to a standard template. A new generation of tall buildings and city forms demands to be discovered, leading us to define a new status quo, one that takes responsibility for our actions in the environment.
